Hey, not sure what you’re up to on Saturday night, this May 5th, but I’m throwing a house concert over at my actual house in San Francisco, and you are invited to come over. I am going to cook it up, server some booze, and play my songs solo acoustic style - and only the good songs. and to boot, we’ll hear from Lorenzo Levinger, Bertie Benitez, and Carroll Glenn. Doors are at 7pm, music starts at 8pm. It’s gonna be good times. If you want to come, but don’t know where I live, just drop me a line. I basically live in the Mission District in San Fransco, but email me and I’ll give you my address. Also - on May 10th at The Bistro in Hayward, me and the band will be playing our rock and roll songs. And last but not at all least, on May 18th at The Old Western Saloon in Point Reyes Station the band and I will be playing a set of the hits (and only the hits). Danger Mon and Fleeting Trance are also on that bill. This is Manny and my traditional annual acoustical musical birthday show! I KNOW I KNOW, our birthdays are really on May 19th, but we are doing the show on May 18th. That’s how we roll this year. Hey my new album is just about wrapping up. I am ever so close to going to press. Ever so close. Hey, remember back in December when I joked about the album being ready in July? Well, who’s laughing now? No one. I believe the album’s gonna actually be ready in July, so watch out for that. I will let you know how things are progressing once I know more about when it’ll be ready.

Come on over around 7:30, music starts at 8pm. Come by any time, really. If you don’t know my address but would like to come, just drop me and email and I’ll hook you up.

Also, tomorrow night (aka Thursday night), me and Jeff Cotton are running our monthly open mic at the 23 Club in Brisbane. This is the coolest joint around, and the stage has seen the likes of Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and more. You can play three songs and I record the show just like we do at the utah. Signup is at 7:30, music starts at 8pm.
The 23 Club (http://www.myspace.com/the23club) is located at 23 Visitacion Ave in scenic (and quite near) Brisbane California.

Hey that new album is getting there! gonna make some vinyl LPs this time around too. I’ll keep you posted as we get closer - I’m thinking february or so (aka July).

Solo acoustic concert - Tuesday 9/20

I’m very honored to be playing as the feature at KC Turner’s show at the Red Devil Lounge in San Francisco next tuesday 9/20.  I’ll be playing my songs solo acoustic style, just me and my guitar and my songs.  and I’ll drink some beer too and have some laughs before getting down to business with the sad waltzes.  I go on 9pm.

The Red Devil Lounge is at 1695 Polk St. here in sunny San Francisco.  There’s this too:  http://www.reddevillounge.com/

Two new house concerts announced

My favorite type of shows are small and intimate house concerts.  I love these shows because I can play real quiet and soft and not feel the need to pump it out loud over the din of a bar crowd.  And, luckily for me, I just scheduled two house concerts coming in the next two weeks.  One on Wednesday July 27th in San Francisco Andrew and T’s house and one on Wednesday August 3rd in Oakland at Shareef Ali’s house.  Email me at “jj at jjschultz.com” for details.

Traveling Song

JJ Schultz - Live at the Hotel Utah

I wrote this song while flying back to San Francisco from a trip to North Dakota, but I mostly wrote it about northern Wisconsin.  When I sing this song, I mostly think it’s about getting back to comfortable environments…  but I hesitate a little bit when I type that, because there’s a part of me that knows that comfortable environments don’t do anything for learning or testing.  I guess there’s a time and place for comfort and for lack there of, and this song is about getting back to the comfort of home.
